Suggestions to improve essay intro?

Every visual text has a purpose, an inherent message to impart, or a principal value to instil upon the viewer. Acknowledging and using for our benefit our differences, in cultures and as individuals, is a concept which is often conveyed, encouraging the harmonizing values of acceptance and tolerance. A poster advertisement for the website, yourpointofview.com, promoting HSBC bank, juxtaposes two completely different activities, ballet and cricket. Symbolic and written codes are employed in this poster to effectively emphasize the diverse attitudes and responses people have towards these activities. In a similar way, the film Starship Troopers, produced in 1997, directed by Paul Verhoevan, uses visual codes, representing and critiquing the mindset ociated with war, through Nazi symbolism and the special effects portrayal of the ‘arachnids’, the insect-like alien ‘enemy’. In doing this the primary purpose of conveying the danger in fearing those who are different, an attitude which lies at the very core of war and conflict, is achieved, and war is satirized. Hence, the viewer is subconsciously convinced to accept the intrinsic anti-war message of acceptance and understanding. In both cases enlightening the audience as to the underlying message and value influences them to pively accept it. This is achieved through the texts use of symbolic, technical and written codes, which in addition serves to highlight the essentially positive anti-intolerance, open minded meaning within the HSBC advertisement, and Starship Troopers.
